August 7, 1720 - victory of the Russian fleet over the Swedish squadron near the island of Grengam
Mikhail Golitsyn commanded the Russian rowing fleet, and vice-admiral Sheblat commanded the Swedish squadron. At the beginning of the battle, our galleys were fired upon and forced to retreat in shallow water, where as a result of excellent maneuverability they were able to gain an advantage and go on a counterattack. Four Swedish frigates were captured in melee attacks, the rest of the ships had to retreat. The victory in this battle ensured the strengthening of the Russian army in the east of the Baltic and gave Russia a final advantage over Sweden.
