Unlike hamsters and mice, guinea pigs live quite a long time. With good content, their life expectancy is usually 6-8 years. This is comparable to the life of some dog breeds.
The cage with the guinea pig and the wool of the animal itself do not emit an unpleasant smell. You will immediately feel the difference if you have hamsters or rabbits before the pigs. Of course, the cage should be cleaned regularly, and the mumps should be bathed if necessary.
Guinea pigs are diurnal. And sleep at night. This means that they will not wake you up by making “fun starts” in the middle of the night, like chinchillas, for example.
If you want to buy a healthy animal, contact the specialized clubs and nurseries involved in breeding of guinea pigs. Do not buy pig in a pet store or bird market. The owners of the nursery will always help you choose a pet, will give recommendations for care.
